Self Care In Quarantine

Self care means something different to everyone. Sometimes its that shread of time that you can run into your favorite local Boutique, going to get your nails done, or a trip to your favorite salon. By definition self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress. During this Covid-19 pandemic is evident that self-care is more important than ever not only with personal hygiene to protect yourself and others from the virus but for your mental health as well. Make yourself a priority because at the end of the day YOU are your longest commitment!

We asked our staff at Bliss Beauty Bar what they are doing to promote self-care in their own lives during quarantine 2020!

“Self care doesn’t always have to mean pampering yourself. Pampering your body by going outside and absorbing Vitamin D is a great way to boost your mood during these uncertain times. Vitamin D helps fights diseases, reduces depression, and boosts weight loss. “While it’s great to be informed, sometimes information overload can cause more anxiety! And we all know how overwhelming the headlines are during this outbreak! Self care can mean limiting your time on Social media and news sites to help curb your bad news intake. Set your phone down for an hour. Walk away! Sit outside, take a bath, learn a new skill (embroidery is my goal for this quarantine!), or even just be still and close your eyes. “Self care comes in many forms. Sometimes we over look ‘self discipline’ as self care. If you’re trying to eat healthy and struggle with saying no to those chips, donut, ice cream, etc., tell yourself ‘I love you too much to put bad food in.’ ‘I love you too much to not be productive.’ Be good to and for yourself. “Self care is something I struggle with under normal circumstances so under Quarantine I have made it a priority! I have enjoyed waking up early each day, going on a hike or jog, enjoying the fresh air, views, and sunshine, Nature really speaks to me it calms me, clears my mins, and helps ease my anxiety. “I have loved using this extra time to actually make a hot breakfast for myself. Try a new recipe even! Bring your breakfast and coffee outside and enjoy it while getting some fresh air. Today I’m trying Dutch baby pancakes! You probably have all the ingredients at home as well. “Self care is any activity we do to take care of our mental, physical and emotional health. For me I love waking up early, drinking my coffee and relax before my day begins. Sometimes we need to totally disconnect from the news and social media and focus on our well being and mental health. Go for a walk, get enough sleep, drink water, spend 30 minutes exercising, spend time with your loved ones, paint your nails. “Take the time to pamper yourself. Self care isn’t selfish, it’s necessary! Take a hot shower and then slather on a face mask. Don’t have a face mask? Make one! A diy mask I recommend includes 1/2 an avocado, a tbsp of honey, and a handful of oats. These ingredients are great for hydrating and nourishing the skin. “I have really enjoyed sleeping in during this time off. Having 2 active kids and a busy life never allows me to sleep past 7am even on weekends. My self care routine is sleeping until 7:30/8, drinking a cup of coffee (by myself quietly), and then forcing myself to get out of my pjs, put on a new pair of clothes, and slap on a little day wear makeup. Getting extra sleep and getting ready will make you feel alive and remember that you get ready for yourself, not for everyone else in the world!” -Carlie https://www.instagram.com/carliesmith14/

“My self care consists of routine and goals! I get up everyday and get ready for the day. I make a “tentative ” schedule of my day and set at least one goal for the day! I listen to music instead of watch T.V and connect with at least one person that I’ve been trying to catch up with because our schedules don’t ever match up. The most important has been realizing it’s the little things in life that matter the most!
